The INTERNATIONAL PATAGONIA TOUR is an expedition race on mountain bike, which will have its second edition on February 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th, 2010. During three days the competitors, in teams of 2 members, must tour the Argentinean-Chilean Patagonia, on mountain bikes in daily stages of 40 and 100 km approximately, around mountain roads and paths, resting in camps at night. The technique, the physical skill and the correct race planning will be essential to achieving the objective,
identifying the best racers in each category at each stage. The Competition winners will emerge from adding these stages times.
1 – THE TEAM
Members: 2 competitors older than 18 years.
Categories: Mixed Men - Ladies - Master - Senior.
Captain: one of the members must be appointed captain of the team and will be responsible for communicating with the Organization, and he will have the final word on his team.
Name: up to 3 words. It should not contain offensive or inadequate words.
In race: the 2 members of the team must always cover the routes together. Breaking this rule constitutes a penalty.
Level of difficulty: Competitors must have a very good physical training, have experience in the use of mountain bike and must be prepared for several days of competition, resting in campsites.
Breast: Competitors may participate with the T-shirt that they want. It’s mandatory that both members of the team use the same jersey design, which must be used above all other clothing and throughout the competition. The Organization will provide the number of competitors, which must be used on the bike and above the jersey.
Sponsors: each team can have their sponsor and can display it on: shirt, shoes, helmet, bike, and backpack. Flags are not allowed during the race and the awards ceremony.
2 - THE MOUNTAIN BIKE
Mountain bike should be in optimal conditions.
The journey will be across mountain roads, paths, and occasionally across different towns.

4 - RULES
It’s prohibited the use of ropes or other items for stick together team members or their personal items (backpack, bicycle, etc.).
The team must stay together throughout all the competition and they can’t be separated for more than 50mts.
Competitors are not allowed to be followed by any kind of road vehicles in road sections.
Competitors are not allowed to take powered- vehicles to face less resistance.
Drafting is allowed only between competitors.
Competitors must respect the decisions of the Race Director.
5 - TRAVEL
The tour will be approximately 40 to 100km per stage.
The tour will be marked in sectors which, according to the Organization, may produce errors to competitors.
There will be a start, a finishing line, and several checkpoints to be crossed.
The tour can be modified or terminated at any time by the organizers due to bad weather, security issues or other unforeseen causes.
Skipping a checkpoint determines that the team continues or not in the race at the immediately following position below the last team to cross all checkpoints.
Teams must follow the directions given by the Control Responsible. Otherwise they can be subjected to sanctions, including exclusion from the race, if any.
6 - CAMPSITES
Competitors must sleep in the campsites established by the Organization.
Assistants are not allowed. They should respect the established schedules.
It’s obligatory to rest in tents and / or vivisacs. To rest inside vehicles is not allowed.
The campsites may not have services (they may be organized campgrounds or areas of rough camping).
7 - SAFETY
Each participant in the Patagonia Tour it’s the unique and exclusive responsible for his / her participation on the event, and will not establish any responsibility of the organizers and / or sponsors of the competition, by any damage of his / her person or elements during development or during the event.
Each participant shall bear all costs of medical emergencies, with the exception of the coverage given to him in the race with ambulance, nurse and doctor.
During the competition, there will be ambulances with doctors to assist those who require it.
Each participant must have their own medical coverage for accidents and must communicate it to the Organization in the registration form (the name of their medical coverage, and an emergency telephone). The Organization will not pay for expenses for an accident while the person is transferred to a hospital.
The Organization may prevent a participant continue to intervene in the competition, where the medical staff warrants otherwise. This decision does not entitle to any claim to the organization, sponsors and / or medical staff.
After the race you can not claim the assistance of a doctor to the Organization.
8 TIMING - CLASSIFICATION
The time-timers begins with the start of the competition and stops once crossed the finishing line each day. The sum of the times of the different days will be the final time of the race.
The winning team is the one who completes the route in the lower band of time without having breached competition rules.
The team that uses the least amount of time to perform each stage will be considered the winner of that stage, and must wear the yellow jersey of leader in the next stage. This jersey will be provided by the Organization.
Can only aspire to classify those teams who complete the journey with the complete team (2 members).
The judges may add time to the teams that are penalized, as well as forcing them to stop the race at the checkpoints to meet a penalty.
The classification is established by the time of teams that carry out the complete race, joining penalties involved if any.
The times are taken with the X AMB CHIP TIMING last generation. Participants must wear the chip attached to their right ankle. The chip emits a signal that is received by readers that the Organization will place on certain sites of the tour.
The chip will be given to the competitors as a loan. Competitors are responsible for their proper use and return at the end of the competition. In case of damage and / or loss of the chip, the participant must pay to the Organization the amount of One Hundred Dollars (U$S 100).
9 - DISEASE
Any team or participant who decides to leave the race must communicate it immediately to the Organization.
It will be obligatory to leave in a checkpoint.
The team that leaves the competition cannot claim to be moved to the finishing line, except that the closure due to a physical inability to continue, having suffered an accident or injury that prevents further development of the event.
10 - JURY
A race jury will evaluate any legitimate protest.
All the protests and / or claims must be submitted writing to the Organization.
The jury has the power to impose penalties or give credits to the time of the team. Participants in the race will be heard by a representative jury.
The resolutions determined by the Jury shall be communicated to competitors by the Race Director; there is no possibility of any claim in this regard.
11 - CLAUSES
Each participant is responsible and is the only judge on the advisability of embarking on competition and to continue with full knowledge of the risks that the development of the competition can lead him to face. And will not establish to the organizers and / or corporate sponsors from any criminal or civil liability in the event of bodily injury or material which may occur in the PATAGONIA TOUR.
The Organization reserves the right, after consulting the medical staff, to forbid a competitor or team to continue racing, if according to the Organization there is a risk for their health.
The Organization is not liable for behaviour of competitors and / or teams that do not respect the laws of the Republic of Argentina and / or the Republic of Chile.
The images obtained in the competition may be used by the Club de Corredores and / or corporate sponsors for the purpose of disseminating and publicizing the event and / or products associated with it, but competitors who agree to participate in the PATAGONIA TOUR are not allowed to make any claims for the use and / or dissemination of these images.
Registration for the PATAGONIA TOUR involves acceptance of terms and conditions written in the present Rules, which terms the participants agree. |
